A man who posted several photos bragging about eating an rare sea turtle (pawikan) is making rounds online.
Concerned citizens are in rage after a guy named John Dula-ugon Colonia posted in social media very disturbing images of chopped sea turtle meat place on a styrofoam container. In the screenshots posted by netizen Revilo Aicrag Ojemreb the images were captioned "Kain Tayo (Let's Eat)".
What really caught the attention of the netizens is when commenters reminded him that what he did was illegal, the guys seemed to bragged about his accomplishment and replied, "masarap ang bawal (forbidden is delicious)". One commenter named Janeth Ann Reufer Verdan, who was tagged in the post noted that "She will take of it" (Ako na bahala).
Revilo Aicrag Ojemreb the guy who reported the photos also alerted some animal loving groups like Endless Pawsibilities with some pointing out the extreme consequences of Colonia and company's actions.
Other concerned netizens called up the attention of DERN and Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) to investigate the matter.
In the Republic Act No. 10631 or The Animal Welfare Act, any person who subjects any animal to cruelty, maltreatment or neglect shall, upon conviction by final judgment, be punished by six months to one and a half years of imprisonment and a fine ranging from 30K thousand to 100 thousand pesos.
