Nowadays, sharing something on social media without giving due credit to its original author is an online recipe for disaster. And such was the case when a certain Angelica Jane Yap rose to unlikely fame when she posted a screenshot recipe of pastillas de leche with a bittersweet twist.
The whole process of making the sweet milk-based treat was used as a backdrop on which to recount how the girl was left by her former boyfriend for not just another girl, but her best friend. The one-page pastillas recipe was so accurate and so was her recounting of the events together with her unresolved feelings of being cheated on and left for someone else.
Many people who saw the recipe online found it so clever and relatable with their own experiences and so the post garnered thousands of likes and shares, naming Yap as “Pastillas Girl”. Because of her virtual fame, she was invited for a guest appearance in ABS-CBN’s noontime show “Showtime” last September 14, 2015. It seemed her recipe was a sweet success.
However, recent developments on social media revealed another woman by the name of Miel Francisco, who ranted on her Facebook page over someone stealing credit for her original pastillas de leche recipe. Netizens have been quick to jump in and verify her claims. According to some of the comments, Francisco’s post actually came before Yap’s repost. However, the original recipe was not shared via the “share” button on Facebook which gives due credit to the original author of any post made online. Now that people have been sounding off on Yap’s alleged recipe theft, she issued a statement saying she simply shared the screenshot photo but due credit to Francisco was amiss as many have already shared the witty recipe.
The incident was a sweet experience turned sour for Francisco as someone else seemed to have benefited from her idea, even resulting in a television guesting. What people find peculiar though is that Yap’s admission that it was indeed only a shared post instead of her own only came after the recipe already went viral via her account, which left a bad taste for some netizens. So who is the original Pastillas Girl? You decide.
