Manila, Philippines – A magnitude 5.3 earthquake shook Quezon province this evening Wednesday, September 3, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

Manila, Philippines – A magnitude 5.3 earthquake shook Quezon province this evening Wednesday, September 3, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.    The Earthquake struck right after the Gilas Pilipinas Basketball team lost to the Puerto Rican Basketball team and rocks Quezon province and nearby cities. Citizens in Metro Manila said they felt at least a magnitude 3 based on their experience.  Phivolcs said that the quake struck 92 kilometers northeast of Jomalig, Quezon at around 9:43 pm.  Intensity 3 was felt in Quezon City, Mandaluyong City, Guinayangan in Quezon; and Gapan in Nueva Ecija.  Intensity 2 was felt in Sta. Rosa, Laguna; Tanza, Cavite; and Makati City.  The quake, which was tectonic in origin, had a depth of 10 kilometers.  Although there are no structural damages werw reported but aftershocks are expected.
